Attraction or Direction?

by Chris L
(Tonto Basin, AZ, US)

I’m a firm believer in the “Laws of Attraction”. However, I tend to look at it from a different perspective. I like to call it the “Laws of Direction”.

I don’t really believe that we’re attracting these desirable outcomes. Instead, I believe we’re directing ourselves to that eventual outcome.

My mentor taught me the concept of “if there is no dream, there is no desire”. That made a great deal of sense to me. I think when we have a desired outcome in mind; every step we take is in that direction. When I used to do sales training, I used the analogy, when appropriate, of using a shotgun as opposed to a target rifle. Sure, you may hit the target with a shotgun, but if you use the rifle, you’re more focused on the target and your results will be more precise and consistent.

I don’t believe the discussions about natural disasters are applicable to the Law of Attraction. Believe it or not, there are some things that we have no direct control over. Also, another direct impediment to our successful outcome would be if another person’s specific goal were to see us fail.

I’m a pretty visual person. So, one of the tools I use is a picture of my goal. Be it a house, car or toy. I set it as my desktop background on my computer. Therefore, every time I log in, I get a reminder of what my current goal is.

Another trick I use is to break things into manageable chunks. If my ultimate goal seems too far-fetched, I try to break it down into progressives steps that I need to attain to get there. That way, I can help myself overcome the frustrations of feeling like I’ll never get there.

Whether it’s Law of attraction or law of direction, if you don’t know where you’re going, it doesn’t matter how you get there.
